Senior Scientist, Cytometric Profiling
About this role
Profiling & Expression Scientist
The Profiling & Expression department within Translational Medicine helps bridge Discovery and Development programs in multiple therapeutic areas through expertise in multimodal molecular analysis of tissues and model systems. The Cytometric Profiling group within the Profiling & Expression department leverages high dimensional flow cytometry for target expression analysis, target engagement assay development, and pharmacodynamic biomarker discovery predominantly using primary human tissues.
The successful candidate will focus on the Immunology therapy area by profiling therapeutic targets of interest in primary human healthy and disease tissue using high-dimensional flow cytometry. Indications relevant to this work include autoimmune, inflammatory, atopic, and fibrotic diseases. Profiling data will support preclinical and early clinical program development as well as translational efforts in Immunology or other therapy areas as needed. This position requires a proactive, innovative, organized, and detail-oriented scientist who can work collaboratively across multiple functional areas to support the development of our company's pipeline.
Job responsibilities include the following:
- Independently designing and executing properly controlled experiments for deep profiling of primary human tissue using flow cytometry in a BSL-2 laboratory environment
- Developing flow cytometry-based preclinical biomarker assays
- Representing the Cytometric Profiling group in team meetings while actively engaging with stakeholders across the Research and Development Division's network
- Presenting results at lab, team, or department meetings
- Maintaining a detailed, complete, and compliant laboratory notebook
- Help supporting daily operations of FACS core lab

Education:
- Bachelor's (with 7+ years), Master's (with 4+ years) or Ph.D. in Biology, Immunology, or related discipline and relevant industry or postdoctoral experience
Required Experience and Skills:
- Experience with traditional Flow Cytometry, preferably with BD Biosciences or Beckman Coulter flow cytometers
- Knowledge of Spectral Cytometry, preferably with Cytek Biosciences spectral cytometers
- Proficiency with FlowJo data analysis software
- Knowledge of immunologic assays: T cell and myeloid cell stimulation, phospho-STAT or NFkB intracellular staining, ELISA
- Cell culture and tissue dissociation techniques
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to function in a team environment
- Ability to interface with translational, discovery, and clinical cross-functional colleagues to drive assay development and implementation into discovery and/or clinical programs as needed
- Proficiency with MS Office applications on the Windows operating system
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Immunology and/or Immuno-Oncology background
- Experience with cell sorting (FACS), preferably with Cytek spectral cell sorters
- Cell preparation for single cell RNA-sequencing as well as Total-seq staining
- Single cell RNA-sequencing using the 10X Genomics platform
- Proficiency with high-dimensional data clustering and analytical methods
- Proficiency with TIBCO Spotfire, GraphPad Prism, OMIQ
- With management guidance, ability to incorporate cutting edge scientific and technical advances to support Profiling & Expression priorities
